Evaluating the Season

This season should absolutely be seen as a success for Arizona State. The Sun Devils dealt with some adversity in December and January, but were still likely to earn a place in the field of 64 for the NCAA tournament. That would be an improvement over each of the last 2 years and this also looked like it could be the year they made it back to the round of 32.

In the Pac-12, they were able to knock off a few teams who were likely to make it to the NCAA tournament, including the impressive win over Oregon. I also believe that the season being called to a halt stopped them from making a run at least to the Pac-12 tournament final, if not winning it outright.

This team was exactly what fans should have been hoping for when the season began. They improved throughout the year and looked like they had a real shot to provide us with some excitement heading into March. The fact that they were able to take out the stronger opposition in the conference was something that would have separated them from previous Sun Devil teams.

It’s unfortunate that we didn’t get to see just what ASU would be able to achieve in the Pac-12 tournament and NCAA tournament, but everything they did in January and February should give fans high hopes for next season.
