SEC Basketball: Final 2019-20 power rankings for end of the season

3. LSU Tigers
Outside of the scandal last year, LSU has a great season. However, losing Tremont Waters was a big deal. I wasn’t sure what to expect this year, but the addition of Trendon Watford ended up being huge for the Tigers. It gave them size and athleticism that is simply hard to defend.
It took a while for him to get the wheels turning, but Watford was nearly unstoppable late in the season as a point forward. He has the handling to break ankles with post players, but the size for guards to have no chance. The only way you can hope to stop him is if you have a hyper-athletic wing, something most teams simply don’t have.
Upsets against LSU is really what hurt the Tigers this season. It started with an early loss to VCU, but it didn’t end there. You can justify losing to Auburn and Kentucky. However, Vanderbilt, USC, Alabama, and Arkansas all beat LSU as well. I know that it’s hard to win on the road in the SEC, but games like that will keep almost any team from making it to the top two.
It’s safe to assume that Watford will be in the NBA next year, so it will take another star to keep LSU in the forefront of the SEC next season. They could easily find him, but we’ll have to see.
