Syracuse Basketball: 2019-20 season overview of the Orange
How did the Orange do?
Barring a miracle ACC tournament championship run, Syracuse seemed on track to highlight the NIT Tournament field this year prior to NCAA Basketball’s postseason cancellations. Sporting an 18-14 record, the Orange ultimately left fans shaking their heads despite most expecting a subpar outing from the team this year anyway.
Had the game been a bit kinder to the Orange though, things may have swayed oppositely by an exponential margin. Having lost an astounding seven games by no more than five points (Georgetown, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, Clemson, NC State, Florida State, North Carolina, and Miami), Syracuse could have not only made the tournament but done so with a notably high seed had a few things played out differently.
Although his detrimental commitment to the 2-3 zone might warrant some extra scrutiny after this year’s campaign, a scenario involving Hall of Fame Coach Jim Boeheim’s departure from the program at this point seems impossible, especially when acknowledging his son’s presence on the team alongside his own 42-year tenure. Regardless, Syracuse might aim to try and convince Boeheim to amend his defensive strategies going forward, as the team’s vulnerability against the three-point shot proved fatal far too often this season.
