Texas A&M Aggies

The graduation of senior big man Josh Nebo leaves the Aggies needing to find a solid center that can play in the SEC. As a team, Texas A&M overachieved with a 10-8 record in league play but needs to find more talent to be a possible tournament contender. Senior guards Savion Flagg and Quenton Jackson will be around, while forward Emanuel Miller is set for a breakout sophomore campaign.

It’s still early in the transfer portal season but there might not be a center candidate out there like a Kerry Blackshear from a year ago. Marfo may end up being the best impact target so finding a way to land him will be of huge importance for head coach Buzz Williams.

VCU Rams

Of all the teams in Marfo’s final five, VCU is the only one who returns their starting center. Marcus Santos-Silva led the team with 12.8 ppg and 8.9 rpg and was the only player who didn’t seem to regress this past season. The Rams also lose a ton of production with all the seniors leaving and could take a step back in the Atlantic 10 next season.

Yet still, this may be the best situation for Marfo in terms of having guaranteed playing time and opportunities. We’ve seen time and time again where mid-major players have huge junior campaigns, transfer to the power conference level and end up playing around 10 mpg with little stats to show for it. At least the Atlantic 10 isn’t a major jump from the MAAC compared to the others and sometimes the best situation doesn’t involve the greatest of leaps.

There is a major need for a player like Marfo from all of these finalists in the frontcourt and his ability to get many rebounds shouldn’t fall down, regardless of the conference he ends up at. This will be an interesting decision soon to be made that’ll have one specific fanbase even more excited for the 2020-21 season.
