NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Predicting landing spots for top 9 uncommitted 2020 prospects
By Brian Rauf
Ziaire Williams – No. 5 overall
A McDonald’s All-American (or would’ve been if the game had been played), Williams is an athletic 6-7 wing who is a smooth, knockdown perimeter shooter and can finish around the rim, though that’s not his strength. His size and quickness allow him to be effective defending on perimeter, too, though he needs to add strength to his 175-pound frame.
Williams’ recruitment has been as wide open as any since he enrolled at Sierra Canyon for his senior season (he was ineligible until Dec. 29 after transferring) as Arizona, Duke, North Carolina, Oregon, Stanford, UCLA, and USC have all been heavily involved, though he dropped Duke from his list last month.
That said, USC has really been surging in his recruitment of late as they would give him a chance to stay in state, start right away, and play alongside the nation’s No. 2 overall freshman in Evan Mobley.
Prediction: USC
Jalen Green – No. 3 overall
Green has all the makings of a future superstar. He has good size for an off-guard at 6-5 (he does need to add strength to his 170-pound frame) and is a high-quality athlete, which helps make him an elite slasher. Green is a capable shooter and fine passer, but he is at his very best when he’s attacking the rim. He plays hard, makes tough shots, and is a solid rebounder as well.
The Napa, CA native has kept his recruitment fairly open throughout most of the process but is believed to be deciding between Auburn, Memphis, Oregon, and playing professionally overseas. Auburn is thought to have a solid lead for him – Green and five-star point guard Sharife Cooper would make for an awesome backcourt – an appear to have gone all-in on making him their star.
Prediction: Auburn
