NCAA Basketball: Top 10 most watchable teams throughtout 2019-20 season
By Max Hastings
5. Iowa Hawkeyes
In the Big Ten, Michigan State has long been the gold standard when it comes to offensive performance and Watchability, but not this year. With the player of the year candidate Luka Garza in his arsenal, head coach Fran McCarthy and his pace-and-space offense finally unseated Tom Izzo as the coach with the most watchable team in the conference.
Garza’s efficient low post play (ranked 1st in the Big Ten in PER and Offensive Win Shares) led the team to a top-25 finish in Offensive Rating, but the most watchable part of their offense was the team’s basketball IQ. Running Coach McCarthy’s offense to perfection, the Hawkeyes were the 3rd best passing team in the nation in terms of Assists per FGM, while also ranking inside the top 50 in that nation in Turnover rate.
Like I’ve said in my previous articles, efficient shooting mixed with smart passing is extremely deadly and one of the most enjoyable styles of basketball to watch. Iowa would’ve been a very tough out in the NCAA Tournament.
