NCAA Basketball Recruiting: 10 takeaways from 2020 classes and commitments
5. Juwan Howard finally landed his big fish
When new Michigan head coach Juwan Howard arrived, he made a point to go after the top players in the 2020 class last Spring, giving out many offers. Prospects were clearly receptive, having the Wolverines among their potential group of finalists. However, only one top-100 prospect (Zeb Jackson), were willing to commit.
Things took a turn for the better in the Fall, landing five-star recruit Isaiah Todd right before the season. Then the recruiting got even better, thanks in large part to Michigan’s huge performance in the Battle 4 Atlantis, rising to as high as No. 4 in the national polls. Top-30 big man Hunter Dickinson committed in December. Two weeks later, top-100 forward Terrance Williams also joined the program, giving the team the No. 1 class in the Big Ten, top-5 overall.
It’s a great first full class for Coach Howard but he’s not done yet. With Xavier Simpson’s graduation, Michigan will need another point guard to join the program this Spring, preferably a grad transfer. There are a number of available options, including Bryce Aiken of Harvard. If the Wolverines could land him, that would be the most impressive commitment yet for him and the program.
