Guards who would be competing for playing time

  • Joshua Langford
  • Rocket Watts
  • AJ Hoggard
  • Foster Loyer

Would Loyer, for example, being willing to be the second guard coming off of the bench as a junior? More than likely in this scenario of Langford coming back, there has been zero indication that a player like Loyer would transfer.

Forwards and Centers who would be competing for playing time

  • Joey Hauser
  • Xavier Tillman
  • Mady Sissoko
  • Julius Marble
  • Marcus Bingham
  • Thomas Kithier

This is where it comes more complicated if Tillman returns because you will have six scholarships, big men competing for two positions at the four and five spots for the 20-21 season.  There is an option for one of the younger big men like Sissoko to red-shirt but that would be highly unlikely. Marble was extremely patient playing limited minutes last season and would also not red-shirt for next season more than likely. Bingham and Kithier will both be juniors and them red-shirting as upperclassmen would be unlikely as well.

Spartan fans would be ecstatic if both Tillman and Langford came back for next season as that would make Michigan State national championship contenders for the 20-21 season. However, Spartan fans would be very understanding and support if Tillman decided to stay in the NBA draft and Langford decided to not come back to East Lansing for the upcoming season. Though, if both do come back to Michigan State for next season and with the possibility of NCAA changing the transfer rules, you could see a current scholarship player or two transferring openings up one or more scholarships.
