BYU Cougars

BYU is a member of the WCC, a conference that Charles Minlend is definitely familiar with considering he has played for San Francisco to this point in his career. While staying within the same league might seem like a stretch, Minlend did include BYU in his final seven and it thus requires discussion as a potential destination.

The Cougars are fresh off an excellent 2019-20 campaign in which they would have landed a high seed in the NCAA Tournament had it not been canceled. Head coach Mark Pope really set the bar high for himself in his first season at the helm of the program.

It is important to mention, though, that BYU is losing a ton of main contributors from this past season. Seven seniors, in fact, are graduating. This includes starting backcourt Jake Toolson and TJ Haws, both of whom were double-digit scorers that played major parts in pushing BYU to hold one of the nation’s best adjusted offensive efficiency ratings in the country.

While BYU has its fair share of talent returning, the program is also relatively active in the transfer market in hopes of landing immediately eligible talents. Minlend would fit that bill and could be an impact player for the program. Although this is a personal opinion, I don’t think that I foresee Minlend staying in the WCC for his final season considering how much he seemed to appreciate his time at San Francisco.
