Team Leaders
The team was led by big man Precious Achiuwa, who averaged 15 points, 10 rebounds, one assist, one steal, and a block while shooting 49% from the field. Achuiwa stepped up largely after the suspension of Wiseman and led the Tigers in almost every category.
Achiuwa really lived up to the hype and more as one of the top recruits in the nation and highlighted his amazing season with a 22 point, 22 rebound and five-block game while shooting 56% from the field in a 74-67 win in OT over Tulane. This was not the only amazing feat for Achiuwa this season as he was also selected to the AAC-All first team and AAC-All Freshman team.
Behind Achiuwa, was freshman D.J. Jeffries and Lester Quinones. Jeffries averaged 10 points, four rebounds, one assist, and one block a game while shooting 51% from the field. Quinones averaged 10 points, three rebounds, and two assists while also making the AAC-All Freshman team with Achuiwa.
Another bright spot of the season was sophomore guard Alex Lomax. Lomax averaged six points, three rebounds, and four assists a game. Lomax was fourth in the AAC in assists per game and fourth in the conference in total assists.
The good news for Coach Hardaway every player I mentioned, besides Achiuwa, should be back for another season next year.
