Jayden Taylor – Indianapolis, IN

CG | 6-foot-3 | 170 lbs | Committed to Butler.

Butler jumpstarted its recruiting class by securing a commitment from Jayden Taylor. A local product out of Perry Meridian High School, Taylor announced his decision to stay in the state on September 19th. He is a young player for the 2021 class but is a budding talent with plenty of potential to develop into a crucial piece of the puzzle down the road. Taylor brings a nice athletic pop to the backcourt to go with his solid size at 6-foot-3.

Although currently unranked by most recruiting services, Taylor played well for G3 Grind on the U16 division of the UAA circuit last summer. He posted averages of 11.6 points and 4.5 rebounds per game over the course of 11 contests while really shooting it well from all over the course. Taylor’s shooting splits of .560/.556/.806 were quite impressive as he was one of the best and most efficient scoring threats on the team.

Taylor will likely be a shooting guard at the collegiate level and he has time to add more muscle to his frame. He has shown improvement as a 3-point shooter over the past year but is still mostly known as an attacking guard. He gets to the lane off the dribble and as a slasher while also possessing the athleticism, wingspan, and instincts needed to be a high-level defender.

He averaged 21.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 2.1 steals per game as a junior with Perry Meridian this past season. He was the top option on the team but was still able to remain relatively efficient as he finished on 47.4 percent of his shots inside the arc (31.3 percent from three).

Head coach LaVall Jordan put together an excellent 2020 recruiting class by targeting strong pieces around the country. He started his 2021 group with a commit from just a few miles away from campus and it is reasonable to assume he is hoping to develop pipelines in the Hoosier State and those surrounding (Illinois, Michigan, etc.) over the next few years. Taylor is a good start in that department.
