NCAA Basketball: 15 head coaches on early hot seat for 2020-21 season
By Joey Loose
6. Mike White (Florida)
At the beginning of the season, Florida had national championship aspirations, with a talented roster built together by White in his fifth season. Obviously, there were heavy expectations for him in replacing Billy Donovan, and to this point, he hasn’t quite lived up to them.
White did lead the Gators to the Elite Eight in 2017, but there hasn’t been much success since that run. As the other teams in the SEC have hired great head coaches and upped the local recruiting battles, Florida seems to have settled into a mediocre role in the conference. Yes, they made the last two NCAA Tournaments and won their first-round games, but teams like Auburn, Kentucky, and LSU have stolen the spotlight in recent seasons.
Once again, expectations are high for next season with this talented Florida team, but will they live up to it this time? To finish 19-12 after last season’s expectations was a certain failure and one that White cannot afford to repeat. The former Louisiana Tech head coach should have his best offense since his hiring and it’ll be interesting to see what he does with it. If it’s a repeat of this season, that is going to be a very hot seat.
