5. Wayne Tinkle (Oregon State)

There is absolutely no disrespect meant to Oregon State or Tinkle, but much of his success in his six years with the Beavers has been a result of relationships. His son Tres starred for the last four seasons, while Gary Payton II lead this team to an NCAA Tournament bid four seasons ago. With them both gone, where’s the talent going to come from for Oregon State to compete in the Pac-12?

Tinkle has already gotten six years and the results have been greatly missed. Right after that Tourney appearance, the team limped to a 5-27 season in 2017, the result of a roster reload and injuries. This finish was forgivable, but it hasn’t exactly been followed up with success. The Beavers were 18-13 in each of the last two seasons, finishing both as borderline top 100 teams, even with a talent like Tres Tinkle on the roster.

Now that Tinkle’s son is gone, what does the future hold for the Beavers? Predecessor Craig Robinson was given six years and clearly achieved less success during his tenure. However, if things bottom out in the near future, don’t be surprised if the Beavers pull the plug. I’m not necessarily expecting Tinkle to be fired this upcoming offseason, but I also don’t expect to see Oregon State anywhere near the top of the league either.
