8. Josh Pastner (Georgia Tech)

Pastner finds himself in a weird situation with Georgia Tech moving forward, though its one that certainly will keep his seat hot in the coming year. When you look at the big picture, his Yellow Jackets actually did improve greatly this past season. However, they were banned from postseason play due to NCAA violations, though it’s not like that postseason happened for anyone either way.

Georgia Tech’s slow progress under Pastner was cause for concern, though the Yellow Jackets played much better down the stretch this past season. Georgia Tech won nine of their final twelve games and managed to finish in 5th place in the ACC, albeit in a bit of a down year for the conference. The great run of games helped cool Pastner’s seat, but these under .500 seasons cannot resume, especially since he’s balancing the sting of violations as well.

The bottom line is that Pastner underachieved in his seven years at Memphis and looks to be doing more of the same with Georgia Tech. His Yellow Jackets have been an above-average defensive team since his arrival but there’s still plenty of work to be done. This team is nowhere near competing with the top echelon teams in the conference and it’s fair to wonder if Pastner is the guy who can make that happen.
