Jabri Abdur-Rahim (Blairstown, NJ)

SF | 6-foot-5 | 185 lbs | No. 40 overall

A lengthy 6-foot-5 wing with impressive scoring ability, Jabri Abdur-Rahim seems to be the type of player that can immediately make an impact in Charlottesville. While it can be difficult for a freshman to learn Tony Bennett’s system, Abdur-Rahim is an intelligent player that could quickly gain an understanding of how he can be a positive contributor from the opening tip of the season. He is already a highly-regarded and versatile defender that puts a ton of effort into that side of the ball and can cover multiple positions with his length.

Abdur-Rahim is also a natural-born scorer who really posted a standout spring/summer last year on the Nike EYBL circuit. As the star player for Playaz Club, he averaged 25.2 points (.398/.302/.758) and 8.0 rebounds per game across 13 total contests. He has proven that he can be a legitimate threat from beyond the arc and does an excellent job attacking the basket. Abdur-Rahim is a true three-level scorer that has shown significant improvement in his efficiency over the past year.

Quite frankly, Abdur-Rahim seems like a perfect match for Virginia. He is a highly-regarded four-star prospect that already takes a ton of pride in his defense. He will arrive on campus ready to learn how to contribute on that end of the floor and that will allow him to crack the rotation. He can then showcase his natural scoring ability as a potentially featured part of the offense.

Virginia is projected to be a preseason Top 10 team in the entire nation for this coming campaign thanks to a ton of returning talent and an influx of freshmen + Sam Hauser. Abdur-Rahim is likely to compete for one of the starting wing spots with Casey Morsell and Tomas Woldentensae but at the very least should be one of the team’s top reserves. He is the type of impact freshman that could really take the Cavaliers over the top as a title contender.

That concludes this look at Virginia’s 2020 recruiting class. This three-man group is rated among the best in the entire country and each newcomer seems to be a perfect mold for the program. Coach Bennett did a great job prioritizing pieces that fit his system and the Cavaliers’ future is significantly bright.
