NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Top class of 2020 recruits from all 50 states
Virginia: Cam Thomas, Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson), Jeremy Roach, Paul VI Catholic (Fairfax)
Cam Thomas was named Maxprep’s POY as he averaged 31.5 points, six rebounds, and 3.4 assists, along with two steals while guiding Oak Hill to a 37-3 record. Thomas, who scored 1,258 points this past season to become the program’s all-time leading scorer, shot 56% from the field as well as 37.3% from beyond the arc and 86% from the free-throw line.
The five-star guard has signed with LSU. Jeremy Roach was named the state’s Gatorade POY after guiding Paul VI to a 27-8 record and a berth in the Alhambra Catholic Invitational Tournament. The 6-2guard averaged 17.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 2.9 steals. He has signed with Duke.
West Virginia: Isaiah Cottrell and Jaemyn Brakefield Huntington Prep (Huntington)
Isaiah Cottrell and Jaemyn Brakefield are the second set of teammates that have shared the best player in the state. Cottrell was named the state’s Maxprep’s winner and Brakefield brought home the award from Gatorade. The pair led the Irish to a 23-8 record.
Cottrell, a 6-9 forward, averaged 18.9 points, 9.3 rebounds, and two blocks while Brakefield averaged 19.2 points, 8.3 rebounds, and three assists. Cottrell will play at West Virginia, and Brakefield is headed to Duke.
