NCAA Tournament: 50 biggest individual game performances from 2010-19
By Logan Butts
2017 – KeVaughn Allen, 4 Florida vs 8 Wisconsin, Sweet 16
In what was a truly wild game, Allen was seemingly the only player who could score for the Gators against a very balanced and experienced Wisconsin squad. Good thing Allen went for 35.
2017 – De’Aaron Fox, 3 Kentucky vs 2 UCLA, Sweet 16
On one hand, you couldn’t help but be in awe of Fox’s performance in UK’s more-of-a-blowout-than-the-scoreboard-suggested win over UCLA in 2017. 39 points on 13-20 shooting (0-1 from three?!) plus three rebounds, four assists, and two steals. On the other hand, it sort of ruined what was the most anticipated matchup of perhaps the whole tournament.
2017 – Caleb Swanigan, 4 Purdue vs 5 Iowa State, 2nd Round
One of the best all-around big man performances on the list, Swanigan went for 20-12-7-1-1 and lead his team in points, rebounds, and assists in the win over a good Iowa State squad.
2018 – Rob Gray, 6 Houston vs 11 San Diego State, 1st Round
Rob Gray was playing like a man-possessed in 2018. He scored 39 points (12-25 from the field, 11-15 from the line) and hit a double-clutch game-winning layup with one second left to beat San Diego State. And to think, they were one buzzer-beater away from taking down Michigan, who made it all the way to the title game, in round two.
2018 – Jarius Lyles, 16 UMBC vs 1 Virginia, 1st Round
Just a ho-hum 28 points on a hyper-efficient 9-11 shooting plus four rebounds and three assists in a normal, routine, we’ve been here before, 1 vs 16 matchup. UMBC should’ve really taken it east on those lowly Cavaliers.
