Seton Hall Pirates

While Sanogo hails from Mali, his US residency is in New Jersey, playing for Saint Patrick High School. That would make Seton Hall the “hometown” option of the group, which could give them a leg up if he opts to play in the 2020 class. He would be the replacement for Romaro Gill, who had a breakout senior campaign this past season.

Sanogo, who admittedly has more raw talent than Gill or current backup Ike Obiagu, would be another center that head coach Kevin Williard gets to develop. There have been comparisons to Angel Delgado, a former Pirate big man who was a rebounding machine for four years.
With Bryce Aiken coming in as a grad transfer, Seton Hall is in good shape at the other positions, although the depth could be a bit shaky. But without confidence that Obiagu can play for long periods of time as an effective starter, there’s a real need for them to land a big man for next year.

Sanogo can come in and play well along Sandro Mamukelashvili in the frontcourt and not be tasked with doing too much in year one. For many players who move up a class, it can be too much to ask for, which is why development is key. Coach Willard has proven to be one of the best in that category.

When players are serious about reclassifying, there’s a 90% chance that happens barring a major development. If that happens, I’d argue that Pittsburgh and UConn would be out, with Maryland also if they land Santos-Silva. Auburn is a wildcard and darkhorse contender, while both Nebraska and Seton Hall make great arguments for immediate playing time and eventual success. But between the two, the stability, being close to home and the best chance to win gives the Pirates the best overall situation for Sanogo.
