Big Ten Basketball: Way-too-early power rankings for 2020-21 season
By Brian Rauf
We all knew Fred Hoiberg was undertaking a huge rebuilding job when he took over Nebraska, but I don’t think we realized just how big of a job it was until the Cornhuskers started the season by losing to UC Riverside and Southern Utah.
The program is in for a pretty sizable talent influx this offseason thanks to Hoiberg’s work in the transfer portal.
Teddy Allen, a gifted scorer, is coming in from West Virginia. Kobe King will also help in that department as he transfers in from Wisconsin (assuming he gets a waiver or the one-time transfer rule passes, allowing him to be immediately eligible). Kobe Webster, who averaged over 17 points per game for Western Illinois, joins the mix as well along with big man Lat Mayen, who started his career at TCU and shot nearly 44 percent from three-point range in the JUCO ranks.
The cupboard isn’t completely bare in Lincoln, either, with Thorir Thorbjarnarson returning as a sharpshooter in the backcourt along with Kevin Cross and Yvan Ouedraogo in the frontcourt.
It may take some time for this group to mesh together, but the talent is no longer a question for the Cornhuskers. I expect to see them take a small step forward this coming season and be competitive in Big Ten play.
