Iowa State Cyclones

Without Tyrese Haliburton or Prentiss Nixon around, the Cyclones backcourt will primarily rely on Rasir Bolton, along with three-star incoming wings, Darlinstone Dubar and Dudley Blackwell. With Bolton possibly not being around after next year, the team desperately needs to find a lead-ballhandler at some point.

Iowa State did land a guard in former Memphis player Tyler Harris, who will have to sit out this season. And they’re also after Wake Forest transfer Chaundee Brown, a 6’5 guard who also will have to sit out a season (Illinois also after him). Depending on what he decides, Iowa State could still land Perez, if Bolton leaves. But with that decision coming a year from now, it’s hard to see Iowa State landing this particular player.

Marquette Golden Eagles

This is an interesting situation, as the Golden Eagles already landed a huge transfer in DJ Carton. The former top-40 prospect averaged 10.4 ppg and 3.0 apg in 24 mpg off the bench at Ohio State before leaving the team due to personal issues. Barring a waiver, he’ll have to sit out a season like

Perez.
In the meantime, we’ll see which guards step out, now that the high-usage Markus Howard is gone. Depending on what the perimeter players do, Perez’s availability of minutes and preferred position could be in doubt. And how he fits with Carton also is an issue to address. Compared with other options, there may be too many questions about Marquette in the next year to properly asset how good a situation it’ll be for the Gardner-Webb transfer.
