Mountain West Basketball: Way-too-early 2020-21 power rankings

2. Colorado State
Colorado State was a very difficult team to place on this list. Their backcourt is obviously going to be strong. Isaiah Stevens and David Roddy were both instrumental to this offense this season as freshmen and should only get better in year 2. Adam Thistlewood and Kendle Moore will look to build upon solid sophomore years and become the upperclassmen who lead the squad.
The thing that will hold this squad back is that we don’t really know what to expect from their frontcourt. Nico Carvacho’s prolific college career has come to an end, leaving the Rams with a massive hole to fill. Unfortunately, we didn’t see much else in the frontcourt for them this year. We saw glimpses of ability from Dischon Thomas during the season, especially when he stepped up in CSU’s near upset of San Diego State. However, we’re going to need to see a lot more from him for this frontcourt to get the Rams to the top of the conference.
The Rams could still land a big man to make this squad a true contender or a freshman could take over down low, but until we actually see that, it’s hard to see CSU taking out the top team. Their talented backcourt should be able to carry them against a lot of their schedule, but they need something down low to take the conference crown.
