Rutgers: Caleb McConnell

Five of the six players that made any significant amount of starts, or received any significant amount of playing time from coach Steve Pikiell are returning for Rutgers Basketball in 2019-20. The player that is going to benefit from this the most will be Caleb McConnell.

While Geo Baker is going to be an offensive threat, he averaged 11 points and was already second on the team, whereas, McConnell is going to build upon the almost seven points and 21 minutes per game. The main reason is that the Scarlet Knights, much like last year, are going to be guard-heavy. The one senior they had was Akwasi Yeboah who at 6’6 played forward. McConnell is the best candidate to play the third guard alongside Ron Harper Jr. and Geo Baker.

The only player that may contend for minutes as a third guard IS Paul Mulcahy, but McConnell not only shoots 16 percent better from the free-throw line, McConnel is the best player returning from the charity stripe. The end of the season was not great for McConnell as he averaged just over 11 minutes per game during the final seven games of the season, but 2020-21 will see a breakout season for McConnell.
