Point Guard

Minutes Allocated (40 total): Matt Coleman (35), Courtney Ramey (5)

Point guard was a real strong-suit for Texas last season, as junior Matt Coleman stepped up in the Longhorns’ first season without Kerwin Roach.

Coleman averaged 34 minutes per game, putting up per-game totals of 13 points, three rebounds, and three assists. Coleman had the biggest moment of the year for Texas, banking in a buzzer-beating three on the road against Oklahoma in a must-win game.

In his senior season, Coleman should play similar minutes. I would expect that in some games, Coleman would only be subbed out briefly, considering that he is the Longhorns leader with his play and leadership.

Whenever Coleman was out, sophomore Courtney Ramey moved to the point guard role. Ramey was Texas’ starting two-guard, but would assume a ball-handling role when Coleman was not on the floor.

Texas has many options at guard, but as far as point guard goes, Matt Coleman is the clear guy. Coleman is a near-lock to lead the team in minutes played for a second straight season, as he’ll look to leave it all on the floor in his final collegiate season.
