Texas Basketball: Analyzing potential 2020-21 rotation for Longhorns
Power Forward
Minutes Allocated (40 total): Greg Brown (30), Kai Jones/Royce Hamm Jr. (10)
The Longhorns got a major boost last week when five-star power forward Greg Brown committed to Texas, giving the Longhorns one of their top recruits in program history.
Brown will step into an immediate starting role, as power forward was easily the weakest position for Texas last season. Brown is an ultra-athletic forward with special skills on both ends of the floor. Brown might be eased into a larger workload at first, but by the time conference play rolls along, Brown should be on the floor for the majority of the game.
Last season, the four-spot was filled by Gerald Liddell until a season-ending injury, who was replaced by Kai Jones and Royce Hamm Jr. Neither Jones nor Hamm made huge impacts, but both were serviceable, albeit average, options.
Those two should get some time, especially Jones, who showed loads of potential on the defensive end his freshman season, Kamaka Hepa, an Alaskan junior, could see a little bit of time here-and-there, but an injury last season prevented Hepa from getting the opportunity to cement a permanent spot in the rotation.
Power forward went from Texas’ weakest position to one of its’ strongest in less than a week, as the Longhorns, led by Brown, should be nasty down in the low post next season.
