Louisiana State: Parker Edwards

Parker Edwards is not ‘out of nowhere’ exactly. The 6’3 guard is actually a transfer from Southeastern Louisiana where he averaged four points and six minutes while knocking down 24 three-pointers in 27 games as the Southeastern  Louisiana Lions went 12-6 and finished third in the Southland.

After sitting out the 2019-20 season Edwards will benefit from fitting nicely into Coach Will Wade’s system. Historically Coach Wade has done offensively what he did this past season with Louisiana State (LSU) Basketball which is run an offense that primarily consists of a lot of off-ball screens. The high off the ball action is complemented by the corner baseline shooter, usually, the off-guard or swingman, who runs the baseline looking to spot up from the arc.

With 6’4 guard and leading scorer, Skylar Mays graduating the Fighting Tigers do have serviceable perimeter shooters in Charles Manning Jr and Emmit Williams, but Coach Wade may have to shuffle his backcourt around to find a point guard. Despite a great recruiting class, five-star Cameron Thomas is a shooting guard, four-star Eric Gaines is not physically prepared. This, in turn, will leave minutes available for Edwards.

Edwards can score too, in five of the six games he logged over 10 minutes of playing time he scored double digits, once going six for eight from beyond the arc in 10 minutes of play. Not only will Parker Edwards represent LSU on the All-SEC team, but he will be a consistent and important part of the LSU offense this year.
