Tyler Beard – Georgetown

PG | 6-foot-2 | 175 lbs | No. 147 overall

Tyler Beard was initially regarded as a four-star prospect in the 2020 class before experiencing a major drop in the rankings over the course of last summer. He fell all the way out of the Top 200 at one point but then experienced a resurgence in his senior year with Whitney Young High School in Chicago, IL. He was particularly impactful at the Hoophall Classic earlier this year as he re-emerged as one of the best available uncommitted prospects in the class.

Beard announced his commitment to Georgetown shortly thereafter and it is likely that he will crack the rotation as a freshman. The Hoyas are currently waiting on the NBA Draft decision of Mac McClung but otherwise only feature a pair of other guards on the roster (Jahvon Blair and Jalen Harris). Regardless of whether or not McClung elects to return, Beard could be set to play a solid role off the bench in Year 1.

In terms of his playing style, Beard is a unique downhill combo guard with a bright future. While not a particularly dangerous shooting threat, he boasts an excellent first step that allows him to penetrate the paint. He is unafraid of contact and also displays solid playmaking vision as well.

Perhaps most importantly, Beard projects as a high-level defender at either backcourt spot with the right development as he is a strong athlete with a great build. Improving as a shooter might be the most important key for him.

Beard’s late signing was definitely an underrated one nationally. He will have a chance to be a featured part of Georgetown’s future and his tenacious playing style fits the Big East well.
