NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Notable late risers in the 2020 class
K.D. Johnson – Georgia
PG | 6-foot-1 | 170 lbs | No. 82 overall
Another strong backcourt performer at the Hoophall Classic earlier this year, K.D. Johnson made a name for himself while propelling safely into the Top 100 of the class. He is now a consensus four-star prospect and should immediately fill a big role for the Georgia Bulldogs when he heads to campus this fall. An elite-level athlete with a blossoming skillset, there should be no doubt about the fact that Johnson is only scratching the surface of his high ceiling.
His current career path is on the up and that should continue into college. With his muscular physique and strong playing style, it is easy to see the potential for him to immediately contribute on both ends of the floor in the SEC next season. He can match up athletically with just about anyone. With his combination of strength and quickness, Johnson can be a terror on that end of the floor by harassing ball-handlers.
On the offensive end, Johnson utilizes a strong first step to get to the basket and then showcases his physicality once again by being able to finish through contact. He plays with an outstanding motor and also flashed improved perimeter shooting over this past season – that is something that will help raise his stock even more in the coming months/years.
Johnson committed to Georgia back in October after a relatively pedestrian summer. He definitely took his game to the next level as a senior, though, and will now head to Athens as the top piece of a recruiting class ranked at No. 27 nationally (this group features three JUCO transfers). Johnson should be able to find immediate minutes under head coach Tom Crean.
