Washington Huskies: Hameir Wright

After a 5-13 record and a last-place finish in the PAC-12, the whole season is crunch time and the Washington Basketball need to come through, or 2020-21 is going to be a long, rough journey. The departure of talented freshman Isaiah Stewart and Jaden McDaniels who were both rated top 10 in the 2019 class and projected to be mid to late-first round selections in the NBA. Unfortunately for Coach Mike Hopkins, they were the two-leading scorers as well.

Regardless of how much of a priority it is to replace the two freshmen, Coach Hopkins did not have much success with them in the line-up, and fortunately, with both playing in the frontcourt and the right player will be able to soften the loss. That right player is going to be 6’9 power forward senior Hameir Wright.

In a virtual battle for playing time with the two-minute leaders on the team, Wright still received an average of 26 minutes of floor time from Coach Hopkins. In those minutes Wright produced over 5 points, four rebounds, and just under two assists. Wright started over McDaniels during the 2019-20 season but now will get the starters equivalent of the minutes. As a former top 100 freshman, Wright’s usage rate is going to increase as one of the ‘offensively challenged; seven-footers will be in the frontcourt with him to do the dirty work as he ‘breaks out”.
