Stanford Cardinals: Daejon Davis

After a 9-9 season which placed Stanford Basketball in the seventh position in the PAC-12, Coach Jerod Haase is set to lose his second-leading scorer and starting point guard Tyrell Terry to the NBA. CBS currently has the 6’2 freshman who averaged over fourteen points per game, three rebounds, and four assists as the 20th prospect.  This will leave a hole in the starting line-up that will benefit starting shooting guard Daejon Davis.

Davis is not in need of additional playing time, as he led the team with 33 minutes per game last season, the fact that Davis may get more minutes at point guard is the benefit. Davis did log some minutes at point guard last season, and while he was third on the team in scoring with under nine per game, he did lead the team in assists. The downside to Davis is he did have a problematic 22 percent turnover ratio.

The Cardinal offense was the second-worst in the conference last year if Davis can split the point guard minutes with Isaac White, Davis’ usage rate will increase from the 19 percent it was already at. All due to Coach Haase’s half-court set that has the bigmen setting high screens, thus, dragging out the defensive rim protectors. If the wing cuts do not produce a quality shot with around ten seconds left on the shot clock, the point guard takes his defender one on one. These opportunities will have Davis bordering an All-PAC 12 second-team.
