Michigan State Spartans – Cassius Winston

Michigan State was considered by many the best team in the country before the season started, and by the time the season ended the Spartans found themselves in a three-way tie for the regular-season title in an ultra-competitive Big Ten and poised for yet another deep run in March. The biggest reason for that was the play of the best point guard in college basketball, senior guard Cassius Winston. The 6-1 Michigan native has arguably been the best point guard in the country over the last two seasons, averaging 18.6 points and 5.9 assists last season.

But, Winston is no longer in East Lansing and the Spartans and without knowing who is leaving and who is staying in terms of the NBA, finding the next player everyone will see as the face of the Spartans could be a shot in the dark. A name to keep an eye on for next season would be sophomore guard Rocket Watts.

Watts had a productive freshman campaign with nine points and 2.3 rebounds per game, but over his last four games of the season, all wins, he averaged nearly 18 points per game. If he can improve upon his playmaking, Watts looks like he could become the next great Spartan guard.
