NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing Patrick Baldwin Jr.’s top 10
Georgetown Hoyas
Georgetown has not experienced a ton of success on the court under head coach Patrick Ewing, but the program can still be a threat on the recruiting trail. The Hoyas have been historically successful and reigniting that proud tradition could be appealing for a top recruit. The coaching staff has watched Patrick Baldwin Jr. on several occasions while showing interest for a long time.
The Hoyas offered Baldwin back in August 2018 and have maintained contact. This doesn’t necessarily separate Georgetown from the rest of the pack, but the program can offer the opportunity to be the clear-cut star for a Big East program as a one-and-done. It does not appear as though Georgetown is among the favorites at the moment, but it is still involved. Baldwin reportedly had a virtual call with the Hoyas in late-April.
Michigan Wolverines
Michigan was unable to secure two of its biggest targets in 2020 recruiting (Todd and Christopher) but still managed to add one of the best all-around classes in the country. Head coach Juwan Howard has clearly shown his abilities both on the recruiting trail and on the sidelines since taking over prior to this past season. With him at the helm, the Wolverines should continue to rank near the top of the Big Ten year in and year out.
Baldwin was one of Coach Howard’s first targets in the 2021 class and they have clearly remained interested by making this final list. The Wolverines also have a somewhat unique pitch considering Coach Howard is not far removed from being an assistant in the NBA. He has excellent connections at the next level and that could be a driving part of Michigan’s pitch.
The Wolverines are not regarded as a favorite in this recruitment, but they have been successful on the trail under Coach Howard so far. A five-star commit to Ann Arbor following a strong group of 2020 multi-year talents would really make them interesting for that campaign.
