ACC Basketball: Way-too-early power rankings for 2020-21 season
When news came that the Yellow Jackets were ineligible for the postseason, we all kind of ignored the progress that the team made towards the end of the season, winning six of seven games that included the upset over Louisville. And with the NCAA giving the program the okay for postseason play next year, things are looking up… along with expectations for head coach Josh Pastner.
Georgia Tech is the lone ACC who returns its top three leading scorers, led by guards Mike Devoe and Jose Alvarado. The starting backcourt combined for over 30 ppg, seven rebounds and seven assists a game and are All-Conference capable for next season. Forward Moses Wright (13.0 ppg and 7.0 rpg) is also coming back, joined by Georiga transfer Rodney Howard and three-star centers Saba Gigiberia and Jordan Meka.
Jordan Usher will be back as the starting wing, while USC transfer Kyle Sturdivant, Khalid Moore, and senior Bubba Parham provide depth in the backcourt. These guys will be needed to provide three-point shooting and more offense for a team who did improve but still could do better if a top-6 spot in the ACC is their goal. With Devoe possibly going pro after next season, this is the best opportunity Coach Pastner will have in taking this team to the NCAA Tournament. If that doesn’t happen, the Yellow Jackets may be looking for a new head coach.
