NCAA Basketball: Biggest winners of the early 2020 offseason
USC Trojans
USC is bringing in more immediate reinforcements than just about anyone in the country for this coming season. While the Trojans are losing their fair share of talent, including future lottery pick Onyeka Okongwu, they have done an excellent job targeting newcomers that can be impactful from Day 1. Graduate transfers are always highly sought-after due to their ability to play right away and that makes landing multiple tricky. Yet, head coach Andy Enfield snagged three this offseason.
Tahj Eaddy is perhaps the most notable of this group. After a strong redshirt-sophomore campaign with Santa Clara, Eaddy struggled a bit during this past season but is still a reliable all-around offensive threat. He shot 37.9 percent from three in 2018-19 on 203 total attempts – regaining that efficiency could be huge for this coming season. At 6-foot-2, he brings solid size to the backcourt.
Isaiah White (Utah Valley) then fits the mold of the versatile forward of the newcomers. He brings a solid 6-foot-7 build with the ability to rebound at a high level while also being able to stretch the floor with some consistency.
Chevez Goodwin (Wofford) then rounds out the group as a “per 40-minute superstar”. Despite only averaging 21.8 minutes for the Terriers last season, the 6-foot-9 Goodwin averaged 11.9 points, 6.2 rebounds. and 1.1 blocks per game. He does most of his damage around the rim on both ends of the floor.
In addition to the grads, USC also landed Josh Morgan from Long Beach State. The 6-foot-11 big man averaged 8.4 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game as a freshman and will have three years of eligibility remaining. USC is definitely one of the offseason’s biggest winners so far with three immediate newcomers and a budding star of a sit-out transfer.
