Arizona State Sun Devils

Arizona State has bolstered its backcourt in a big way since the start of the offseason. While losing Romello White to transfer has put a little dent in their “winner” status of the past two months, it is hard to argue with how the Sun Devils have been able to add talent at the guard positions. Starting in the transfer market, head coach Bobby Hurley snagged commitments from Luther Muhammad (Ohio State) and Holland Woods

Muhammad is a sit-one, play-two candidate that has already proven himself to be a capable performer at the high-major level. He comes over to the Sun Devils by way of Ohio State, where he starts 56 of 64 games over the past two seasons. He is a reliable 3-point threat (36.1 percent over two years) and is well-known for his contributions on the defensive end. He is a true off-guard with solid size at 6-foot-3 and is expected to sit out this coming year.

Woods, on the other hand, is more of a lead guard and is joining ASU after back-to-back All-Big Sky seasons with Portland State. This past campaign was his best as he averaged 17.7 points (.415/.304/.842), 5.2 assists, and 2.1 steals per game while starting every contest for the Vikings. He is reportedly going to “pursue a waiver” that would allow him to play right away this season.

Perhaps most importantly, though, Arizona State also secured a late commitment from five-star recruit Joshua Christopher. The 6-foot-5 shooting guard is ranked at No. 10 in the 2020 class and his mid-April decision really changes the trajectory of the program for this coming season. Christopher is known as an elite-tier scorer and should be a one-year star for the Sun Devils before heading to the NBA.
