Kentucky Wildcats

As much production that Auburn lost this offseason, Kentucky had even more departures. With the exception of freshman forward Keion Brooks Jr., the team lost everyone from their rotation who played any meaningful minutes this past season. As expected though, head coach John Calipari brought in plenty of reinforcements with the No. 1 overall incoming recruiting class.

Five of the six incoming freshmen are all ranked in the top-35 overall. Guards Terrence Clarke and BJ Boston are the lead perimeter players, while a host of forwards such as Lance Ware and Isaiah Jackson fill out the depth. A few transfers also a part of the class, with senior transfer Olivier Sarr the most notable. He was a must-grab for the Wildcats at the center position and fills out a weakness they had on the roster.

The issue is that Sarr isn’t a grad transfer, so barring a waiver he’ll have to sit out next season. He stated before that if that was the ruling that the former Wake Forest center would simply go pro. So there could be a need for Kentucky to add someone like Maker next year. But if Sarr does get the waiver, that could push the recruit elsewhere.

Maker and Sarr could still play on the floor together and if he didn’t want to go to the NBA this early, what better alternative than the factor of pro athletes that is Kentucky Basketball? They would be a contender to win it all and the development from Calipari and the coaching staff may ultimately be too good to pass up. But the Wildcats should be careful to make sure that either Sarr or Maker will be on campus this Fall.
