2. Kansas Jayhawks: Bryce Thompson

It might be impossible to replace a talent like Devon Dotson, but Coach Bill Self sure did try and came extremely close to doing it. The beauty of having 6’4 Bryce Thompson come play point guard at Allen Fieldhouse is the Jayhawks will not have to change their offensive set-up.

First off, Thompson is deadly in the open court, if he begins the fast break with the ball he is taking it to the rack for two, but he is also more than capable of running a half-court offense. With the addition of Thompson, Dotson is not the player that will be missed the most. The loss of Isaiah Moss and his 174 three-point makes in 132 games is going to affect the offense to a greater extent.

The Jayhawks’ offense consisted of a lot of Dotson, whether he was receiving a high screen to rub off Azubuike to drive to the basket, hitting Azubuike off the roll, or hitting Moss in the corner for a three, the game was in Dotson’s hands. Those are skills Thompson has, except he has the added benefit of being able to shoot off the dribble, whether it be a change of direction or a pull-up better than Dotson. If Thompson reaches Dotsons’ 26 percent usage rate he will be making All-Big 12 Freshman and All-Big 12 teams.
