It’s time we started to put more respect on Bobby Hurley’s name as a head coach. He has led the Sun Devils to three straight 20-win seasons and what would’ve been three straight NCAA Tournament appearances had the 2020 tournament not been canceled.

And, going into his sixth year in Tempe, he has his most talented team yet.

Point guard Remy Martin and elite sixth man Alonzo Verge are both expected to return, according to Hurley, and they also bring back a number of solid rotation pieces as well. Size may be a problem following big man Romello White’s surprising decision to transfer to Ole Miss and, if Hurley is unable to land a grad transfer late in the cycle, Arizona State may really live up to their “Guard U” moniker.

That said, the excitement surrounding Arizona State centers around who they are bringing into the program. Their two-man recruiting class consists of top 30 prospects in wings Marcus Bagley and Joshua Christopher.

Bagley, the No. 27 overall prospect in the 2020 class, is one of the country’s most underrated freshmen and should have an immediate role as a stretch four. Christopher, the No. 10 overall prospect, is the highest-rated commit in program history.

Both are elite scorers that will only add to what will be an extremely exciting offense. Whether the Sun Devils have enough defensively and size inside remains to be seen, but that offense and talent makes them a legitimate threat to win the conference.
