Pac-12 Basketball: Way-too-early power rankings for 2020-21 season
By Brian Rauf
USC is going to have one of the most talented players in the entire country next season in big man Evan Mobley. The 6-11, 205-pounder is the No. 3 prospect in the 2020 recruiting class, according to the 247sports Composite, has all the makings of a high lottery pick. He has the size, athleticism, shooting touch, rebounding, and defensive abilities you want from your big man in today’s basketball.
He will replace Onyeka Okongwu on the side and will make the Trojans a very exciting team to watch.
Outside of him, though, USC has a ton of question marks.
Jonah Mathews, Nick Rakocevic, Elijah Weaver (transfer), and Daniel Utomi are all gone along with Okongwu, meaning USC has to replace their top five scorers from last year’s team. There are players ready to step into bigger roles – point guard Ethan Anderson showed promise as a starter last year and Isaiah Mobley should form a good frontcourt duo with his brother – but depth is a legitimate concern with this group.
Head coach Andy Enfield enters the season on the hot seat, and 2020-21 could be the season that decides his fate one way or another. He has a talented roster that can compete with the best teams in the league, but there are enough potential holes that they could finish well below this No. 6 spot, too. How he handles this group will be key.
