Chip on UNC’s Shoulder?

Last year Roy Williams earned a losing record for the first time since he began coaching the Jayhawks back in 1988. With such a prestigious background, another season resembling something even close to last year’s disaster seems downright impossible. With those struggles now potentially serving as a late-career lesson for Williams combined with the dedication and diligence we know he applies into his work as a 3-time NCAA championship coach, expect Williams to bounce back with a true vengeance.

The Tar Heels basketball program itself owns a prestigious reputation as third most winningest college basketball team as well. After that reputation took a heavy blow after last year, watch out for those within UNC’s basketball program from athletic director Bubba Cunningham all the way down to Dean Dome janitors to swing back hard, and return more determined than ever to break back into the limelight similarly to Williams.

Although we all expect Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski to prepare his team adequately for next season as he has for years now, the Blue Devils will lack the “chip on your shoulder” feeling bestowed upon the Tar Heels once the season tips off. Especially with a head-to-head series as closely contested as Duke vs UNC, another extra motivator can be all it takes for one squad to emerge victorious over the other.

While not exactly forming a revenge tour, UNC will be forced to embark on a tour built on redemption next year, giving them a natural edge over their opponents, including Duke.
