The team originally thought they had their wing starter for the next couple of years with the plan of promoting Alan Griffin after graduating both Kipper Nichols and Andres Feliz. Like Baylor, they also used a primarily three-guard lineup in frontcourt big men Giorgi Bezhanishvili and Kofi Cockburn. Both Cockburn and Ayo Dosunmu are likely off to the NBA, forcing the team to rely heavily on incoming four-star guards Adam Miller and Andre Curbelo.

Under Brad Underwood, Illinois Basketball has been getting back towards having a major presence in the greater Chicago area and their top prospects. For the 2021 class, that includes five-star shooting guard Max Christie, as well as four-star small forward Brandon Weston. The team already has top-100 shooting guard Luke Goode joining the program and will need to replace scoring guards Trent Frazier and Da’Monte Williams.

Next season will be interesting to see with the Illini, not having any NBA caliber talent on the roster. Will they revert back to the lower-tier of the Big Ten or will some players emerge to make the team more alluring for a five-star prospect? This team will have to either land Christie first or win a ton of games to be a top-tier finalist to land Brown.
