Kansas Basketball: Ranking Jayhawks 2020-21 non-conference games
Showdown Games for Kansas Basketball
4. USC (12/19)
In a huge home game towards the end of the non-conference schedule, Andy Enfield’s USC Trojans will head to Lawrence for a big-time battle. USC is returning some key names from a tournament roster, but are also adding a massive recruiting class, led by Evan Mobley, the countries #2-ranked recruit. Being at home is an advantage, but on paper I love the Trojans and the battle between Mobley and Bryce Thompson, two of college hoops’ top freshmen.
3. Kentucky (11/10), Champion’s Classic
In the annual Champion’s Classic to tip off the season, Kansas will face off against Kentucky. John Calipari’s group is losing literally everyone except for one player from last season, so there will be a lot of new faces here. The debut of freshman Terrance Clarke should be exciting, as he and Thompson will battle it out in their collegiate debuts.
2. Virginia (11/26-27), Wooden Tournament
The best of the potential opponents in the Wooden Tournament, the Jayhawks would have a lot of trouble with Tony Bennett’s Virginia Cavaliers. Like UCLA, the Cavs got hot down the stretch, going from a bubble team to a top-25 squad in a matter of weeks. Kihei Clark is back and Virginia is adding a strong recruiting class headlined by Jabri Abdur-Rahim and Marquette transfer Sam Hauser. This should be a great, low-scoring affair with hype written all over it.
1. Creighton (12/3)
One of the biggest games in the entire college basketball non-conference slate, Kansas will tip off December with a home battle against Creighton. The Bluejays won the Big East last season and were set to be a two seed in the tournament. While Ty-Shon Alexander will not return to Creighton, the Bluejays are still likely going to be a preseason top-ten team, led by potential Big East Player of the Year Marcus Zegarowski.
This game should get all the hype, media attention, and build-up that it deserves as a huge game in the early season.
