NCAA Basketball: 6 teams who should target UNLV transfer Donnie Tillman
St. John’s Red Storm
With the news that leading scorer LJ Figueroa is coming back for his senior season, the Red Storm has a strong roster that should make a move in the Big East. That includes the addition of George Washington transfer forward Arnaldo Toro. They’ll need to have another forward ready to go for the following season, particularly true if rising sophomore Julian Champagnie goes pro after a big season.
The Red Storm was a finalist for Tillman a year ago but their interest could be less this time around. It might be a two-year scholarship commitment but the former Rebel could still provide a needed offensive boost unless an unforeseen recruiting pickup comes in the 2021 class. And with 6’9 forward Josh Roberts as the only projected player on the roster who can play at the five-spot, St. John’s may end up playing small-ball overall for 2021-22.
USC Trojans
Despite already having five committed transfer pickups this offseason, the Trojans still have a pair of roster spots free to use. With only one of the newcomers (6’8 guard Drew Peterson), not a graduate transfer, they could definitely use someone that can sit out a season and play in the following year.
Five-star big man Evan Mobley will only be around for one year but USC already has a strong 2021 incoming class set up. They have three commits, including Malik Thomas and Reece Dixon-Waters. Tillman, along with Peterson would fill out the depth and the UNLV transfer himself could end up being the only senior on the roster barring other transfers.
Coach Andy Enfield has shown that he’s willing to take risks to have the Trojans as a contender, adding a familiar Pac-12 face could be helpful for the team after next year.
