PAC-12 Basketball: Top 15 impact players from the 2020 recruiting class
6. Arizona Wildcats – Bennedict Mathurin
With Bennedict Mathurin plus one more Arizona Basketball recruit left to discuss Coach Sean Miller is going to hope he aforementioned trio do not return for their sophomore season, for there will not be enough minutes to go around. Plus, once you consider Arizona only finished two games above .500, no time like the present to start over.
An important member of the Arizona re-boot will be NBA Academy Latin America’s Mathurin. At 6’6, 190, the concerns about playing time that was mentioned for Daylen Terry apply to Mathurin. Whereas Mathurin may offer less flexibility in the positions he can play, he is better at small forward than Daylen Terry. First and foremost Mathurin showed the ability to break guys down off the dribble with the ball in his hands. But, Mathurin’s offensive threat does not end with the ball in his hands, he has the knack of coming off screens and getting a quick shot off.
At times he could be viewed as forcing some shots as he gets into the key, something that will quickly change as he gets integrated as a freshman with his new teammates. With another Arizona Wildcat up next, playing time will be earned, but Mathurin is the first to have a legitimate chance at the Pac-12 All-freshman team.
