4. Arizona State Sun Devils – Joshua Christopher

The picture above was taken Jan. 04, 2019 so the 6’5, 215-pound new recruit for Arizona State Basketball will be about 20 months older when he arrives on the Tempe campus. As mentioned, he has great size for a shooting guard and the athleticism to play the position as well. After finishing third in the Pac-12 and managing an 11-7 record despite having the worst defense in the conference, the Sun Devils are set to lose their starting line-up, except for breakout candidate Kimani Lawrence.

The departures that concern Christopher the most are the ones by senior off-guard Rob Edwards (11.6 PPG) and back-up guard Alonzo Verge Jr (14.6) to the transfers portal. Their absences will make it extremely easy for Coach Bobby Hurley to place Christopher into the starting line-up where he belongs.

At 215 pounds Christopher has wide shoulders that allow him to keep space between him and his defender. This enables him to be a quality dribbler who is not prone to turnovers. At times, the confidence he has in his dribbling skills leads him to over dribble, which may cause him to miss an open teammate, but at least maintains possession.

Albeit versus high school competition, Christopher demonstrated while playing for Mayfair the ability to take over a game, on both ends of the floor. An ability Coach Hurley will need with his top scorers departing and being so poor defensively, to begin with. When you take Christopher and add the next recruit on this list, it is going to be fun to have a seat at Desert Financial Arena.
