Florida Gators

The Gators won’t have any issues at the wing position this upcoming season, thanks to the return of Scottie Lewis. The former five-star recruit averaged 8.5 ppg and 3.6 rpg as a freshman but has lottery potential if he can have a breakout performance in 2020-21. He, along with leading scorer Keyontae Johnson is likely gone after next year so finding some quality recruits in the 2021 class will be important.

The question for Patterson to consider is whether the scheme by head coach Mike White is a proper fit or not. Despite the increase of talent, the Gator’s offense hasn’t improved much and players don’t have the greatest of freedom. And with Louisana Tech transfer Anthony Duruji and incoming top-50 wing Samson Ruzhentsev also joining the fold, there might not be many minutes to go around for Patterson as a freshman.

Indiana Hoosiers

The starting wing for Indiana has been Justin Smith, who may not have been the best fit at the wing position. He recently transferred but the program should be fine, with rising senior Aljami Durham sliding over to the 3 while Kristian Lander and Rob Phinisee take care of the backcourt.

There will be a need for the Hoosiers to find a “true” wing going forward. They do have top-100 commit Jordan Geronimo joining the rotation but Patterson will be a bigger offensive threat for Coach Manning, who’ll have to replace a ton of production in the next offseason. Indiana already has a 2021 commit in top-100 center Logan Duncomb and could use both a wing and another forward to round out the class.
