Top NCAA Basketball recruiting class in the Big 12 – Texas Tech

Let’s just say Chris Beard has a type of player in mind when he’s recruiting wings. His incoming players are menacing defenders with size to spare at their position. It’s a historic haul for the guys in Lubbock. They have the number one class in a conference that landed 5-star prospects Cade Cunningham and Bryce Thompson.

Wreck em’s biggest fish, Nimari Burnett, the combo guard out of Chicago, played with Jalen Green at Prolific Prep. His time there highlighted his ability to play on and off-ball. Burnett’s combination of court vision and scoring touch appears around the rim and perimeter.

For the second time in just as many years, Texas Tech will have a Duncanville High School graduate among them. In 2019 Micah Peavy and likely one and done Jahmi’us Ramsey won a 6A state title as teammates and will just miss their chance to win another in college. In high school the highly switchable Peavy showed his rangy defense, high offensive feel, and a winner’s mentality. After another year of development, the 6-7 forward refined his game to the two-way player that Beard loves.

If you were looking for another versatile forward, look no further combo forward Chibuzo Agbo Jr. He’s developed his game to play on the perimeter while still having the frame to bang with bigs as a small-ball four.

Filling out the red raiders’ ranks is junior college transfer Esahia Nyiwe. The 6-10 power forward averaged 8 points and 8 rebounds on solid efficiency, including 33% from three on limited attempts. Nyiwe is still a bit unrefined, though his shot-blocking instincts and activity level are promising.

Transfers: Marcus Santos-Silva, VCU, 12.8 pts, 8.9 rebounds, 56.9 FG%
Jamarius Burton, Wichita State University, 10.3 pts, 3.5 rbs, 3.4 ast
