National headlines suggest that NCAA sanctions still loom over one of the most successful programs in the country.

Bill Self and the Kansas Jayhawks may find themselves in serious trouble in the not too distant future. The public learned more about the case in HBO’s documentary ‘The Scheme’ but it wasn’t a tell-all be-all like most anticipated.

So here we sit still knowing nothing more than Kansas will get some kind of punishment. Whether that punishment is a slap on the wrist or the death penalty, no one knows, but it will most certainly be something and I believe it will lean towards the more serious side.

The program has backed their HOF head coach through the process and I don’t blame them. Even if he is suspended for a season, you still have Bill Self coaching your team the next year. If they went the route as to fire him, what are the chances they find a coach better than Bill Self? Slim. I’d take a year lull knowing I still have Bill Self in the future.

We will see how the gamble pays off though because they took a very aggressive and hard stance on it on top of that which may have made the people making these decisions at the NCAA want to set an example out of them.

Again, we will see. And again, on to some more sad news around the conference.
