NCAA Basketball: 10 teams who should target transfer Justyn Mutts
Dayton Flyers
The Flyers got their first transfer pickup this offseason with Elijah Weaver, a former top-50 recruit for USC. The 6’6 guard will likely sit out next year but will be a great perimeter replacement for both Jalen Crutcher and Ibi Watson. There’s a bigger need for frontcourt help for 2020-21, with National Player of the Year Obi Toppin and his near 20 and 10 average off to the NBA.
With both Jordy Tshimanga and redshirt freshman Moulaye Sissoko best suited to play at the center position, Dayton still needs to find a true power forward on the roster or will have to use small-ball lineups. Mutts size won’t be a problem in the Atlantic 10 compared to the power conferences and the need for a rebounding forward makes this a potential option.
East Tennessee State Buccaneers
The head coaching change of Steve Forbes going to Wake Forest caused the duo departures of Bo Hodges and Daivien Williamson, which will affect them on the perimeter without question. But Hodges, who was capable of playing at the power forward position for the Bucs, is the bigger roster loss overall. With the team having graduated key frontcourt pieces Lucas N’Guessan and Jeromy Rodriguez, there’s not much depth heading into next season.
Grad transfer center Silas Adheke and reserve Octavion Corley currently make up for ETSU’s rotation, with neither having much playing experience in the D-I. Mutts would be placed into the starting lineup and can be an All-SoCon caliber piece for the Bucs to remain in league title contention. Of all realistic transfer targets, Mutts is someone this program and get and benefit from.
