NCAA Basketball: 10 teams who should target transfer Justyn Mutts
Houston Cougars
A week ago, Houston had no need for roster additions and was a preseason top-15 team for next season. Now, they may not even be ranked to start 2020-21. Leading rebounder and talented wing Nate Hinton is staying in the NBA Draft, while forward Fabian White Jr. is out for the upcoming season after suffering an ACL injury. And with Chris Harris having graduated and Cedrick Alley, Jr. transferring out, the frontcourt for the Cougars is in rough current shape.
Mutts may not end up as a starter but for a two-year plug-in option, the Cougars could do worse. The AAC isn’t one of the top five conferences in the country but teams such as Memphis and others will have their own formidable frontcourts. Just for having other lineups available, this is a player Houston should at least consider.
Kansas State Wildcats
After winning just 11 games this past season, the Wildcats are essentially working with a completely new roster, with seven incoming freshmen and UTEP transfer forward Kaosi Ezeagu. That leaves just he and rising senior guard Mike McGuirl as the lone upperclassmen on the roster, leaving the team looking for potential veteran and depth.
If forward Montavious Murphy can have a breakout campaign as a sophomore, there may not be much of a need for Mutts. However, Kansas State needs to find talent or risk staying in the bottom-tier of the Big 12 for a long time going forward. Just for depth alone, maybe taking a flyer on an eligible transfer isn’t the worst thing, particularly with them not landing much else in the transfer portal.
