Memphis Tigers

It’s been an eventful transfer offseason for head coach Penny Hardaway, having already landed both Landers Nolley and Deandre Williams. Both averaged over 14 ppg at their previous stops and will have to sit out next season barring a waiver. But Nembhard joining those two would put the Tigers in national contention in 2021-22, especially if they can land one of those five-star targets in the 2021 recruiting class.

As for Memphis, they still likely would have guards Alex Lomaz (4.3 apg) and Damion Baugh on the roster. The issue is that neither is much scoring threats from the point guard position and that kind of imbalance can lower a team’s postseason ceiling. Nembhard is better than both and would be an upgrade all-around that they should consider bringing.

Michigan State Spartans

The Spartans roster is in flux at the moment. They have a trio of players (Xavier Tillman, Gabe Brown and Aaron Henry) still going through the NBA Draft process, while Joshua Langford is considering a comeback to the team after missing the past two years with major knee issues. What is confirmed is the departure of Spartan great Cassius Winston, the clear-cut leader and star point guard of the program.

If 2020 guard Karim Mane decided to go to college and picked Michigan State, there wouldn’t be a question as to who will start at point guard. But for now, it’s looking like Rocket Watts and Foster Loyer sharing the duties. If they wanted to make a full-court press to land Nembhard and make him the next Winston after a year, there could be a chance they could land the transfer.
